I wanted a small, independant battery operated LED light to fit on top of my Canon 5D mkIII. I would use it to give some foreground fill light when working in dark places, like nightclubs and dimly lit conference venues. I had a look at the various ones on Ebay and found this one which seemed to be the lightest. The Yongnuo YN-0906 LED video light is a very clever bit of kit which gives out enough light from it’s 54 LED’s to be a very useful 5500K fill light whilst being very compact and light weight.
The Yongnuo YN-0906 LED Video Light Clever Design
It comes with two interchangable plastic filters, clear diffusion to spread the 5500K LED output and an orange 3200K compatable with tungsten ambient light. So you don’t lose the filters, the thoughtful design has them double up as the battery back cover when not used on the front. They also have a clever magnetic fastening device in each corner that keeps the filter covers in place with a satesfying and secure click.
The unit attaches securly on top of the camera via a locking hot shoe and connects electronically to the camera through the base for triggering the light when used as a flash gun. The Yongnuo YN-0906 LED video light uses four 1.5volt AA batteries and has a couple of buttons for increasing and decreasing the standard brightness in five steps. With the press of a third button it can be set to be used as a simple flash for still photography.
